The surviving pilot, who has not been identified, told authorities he had just departed Haller Airpark when he banked into the other aircraft. He was able to being his aircraft down relatively safely and is said to have non-life-threatening injuries. He was also the person who alerted authorities about the accident.

Original Report

A mid-air collision involving a Vans RV-4 and a second aircraft of an undetermined type has occurred in northeast Florida near an area known as Penny Farms in Clay County.

The Florida Times Union reports that the FAA confirmed that one of the airplanes was an RV-4. Both were in the traffic pattern for Haller Airpark, a private fly-in community in Green Cove Springs, according to FAA spokeswoman Arlene Salac.

Both crash sites have been located, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office. One pilot is seriously injured and was transported to a hospital by an air ambulance, according to television station WJXT.

The condition of the second pilot is not yet known

One airplane came down in an open field near the airport. The other impacted terrain in a tree line near a lake, according to the CCSO.
