Ultrasonic Meter Precisely Measures Wind Speed

Knowing exact wind speed makes it easier for sailors to adjust sails and maintain a boat's top performance during wind shifts. Employing patented ultrasonic technology, the WindScribe from Davis Instruments accurately measures wind speeds from 0 mph to 150 mph.

The durable WindScribe contains no moving parts to wear out or break. As a result, it can be used in extreme conditions by anglers, windsurfers, hikers, campers, pilots, balloonists and meteorologists. By simply pointing the barrel into the wind, users get an immediate, accurate speed displayed on an easy-to-read LCD.

In addition to reading current wind speed, the Davis WindScribe monitors maximum headwind, maximum tailwind, 5-second average and running average. Speeds are displayed in both US and metric units including knots, miles per hour, feet per minute, feet per second, meters per second and kilometers per hour. The wind meter also records temperature and wind chill in Fahrenheit and Celsius.

For secure, handheld operation, the lightweight instrument, weighing 3.5 ounces, comes with an adjustable wrist lanyard. It can also be mounted to a tripod or attached to a support with the included Velcro strap and mounting bracket. The Davis WindScribe retails for $129.
