Tanking With The Thunderbirds

Tyson Does It Again

By ANN Correspondent Tyson Rininger

(Every time Tyson Rininger picks up a camera and points it at an aircraft, we at ANN wait with baited breath for the results. This time, he went after the USAF Thunderbirds. Here's what he had to say... and what he shot -- ed.)

After bugging Captain Steven Rolenc and SSgt Katie Garcia year after year for aerials of the Thunderbirds, someone came up with the brilliant idea of joining a tanker flight with the T-Birds arrival for the Moffett Air Show. Unfortunately, I missed the flight with the same premise from March ARB last month, but had I known! These images were taken somewhere over Nevada near the Tonopah Range.

A great big thanks to the 163rd "Grizzlies" Air Refueling Wing and of course the T-Birds for taking the time to put on a mini show for us. Captain Michelle Van Der Linden from the 163rd, Major Denise Varner from CA ANG Public Affairs, Jim Breen, Steve Teatro and Beth Swanson from AirshowNetwork and Gordon Bowman Jones for allowing me the "voice time" for photo-tips at the show.
