If you're like many
pilots and aviation enthusiasts around the US, your summer flying
plans revolve around a visit to the fly-in that needs no
introduction beyond its name -- Oshkosh. Heralding the start of the
countdown to Experimental Aircraft Association's AirVenture Oshkosh
2008, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has released the
EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2008 Notice to Airmen (NOTAM).
If you're flying an aircraft to Oshkosh, the NOTAM is required
reading, and an important part of your preflight preparation.
The NOTAM features arrival and departure procedures for the
annual fly-in. The 56th annual event -- billed by the EAA as "The
World's Greatest Aviation Celebration" -- kicks off July 28-August
3 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, WI.
The NOTAM -- which is in effect July 25-August 3 -- outlines
procedures for the many types of aircraft that fly to Oshkosh for
the event as well as aircraft that land at nearby airports and
includes radio frequencies, Wittman Regional Airport details and
much more.
Although many of the procedures are similar to previous years,
there are updates in nearly every area to enhance safety,
efficiency and convenience. It was designed by FAA, in partnership
with EAA, to assist pilots in their AirVenture flight planning.
As you plan your trip you should be thoroughly familiar with the
NOTAM procedures for your aircraft type and your primary and
alternate airports. Pilots are expected to have a copy of this
NOTAM available for in-flight reference.
The EAA has made it as easy as possible for pilots flying into
OSH to obtain a copy of the NOTAM.
The on-line Adobe Acrobat (pdf) version of the NOTAM is
available in the "Plan For It/Pilot Information" area of the EAA
AirVenture web site, at the FMI link below. A 32-page printed NOTAM
is available by calling EAA Membership Services at 800-564-6322, or
through the EAA AirVenture web site.
