U.S. Marine Fatally Injured In GA Accident

Was Flying His Personal Airplane To The Funeral Of Another Marine

Hundreds of people turned out for a funeral for Marine Maj. Luke Parker Tuesday morning. Maj. Parker was fatally injured when his Focke-Wulf 149 airplane went down November 17 on a flight to the funeral of another Marine.

Parker departed Albert J. Ellis Airport near Jacksonville, NC on his way to Michigan. The plane went down in near the Duplin County airport, but was not found until the next day, according to a report from television station WCTI. The NTSB has not yet issued a preliminary report from the accident.

The wreckage was located in a heavily-wooded area about a mile from the airport.

Maj. Parker is survived by a wife and 10-year-old daughter. He will be buried with full military honors Dec. 3 at Arlington National Cemetery.
