President Obama Takes Jobs Tour To Important Electoral College
State
The FAA has issued a fairly complex series of TFRs for President
Obama's visit to Columbus, OH, as the chief executive continues his
tour touting his jobs program announced last Thursday.
The TFRs will be in effect from 1245-1530 EDT on Tuesday,
September 13th. It follows what has become the normal two-tiered
layout of VIP transit TFRs. The outer ring will be in effect
through the entire duration of the TFR. It will be centered on the
On the APPLETON VORTAC (APE) 238 degree radial at 20.9 nautical
miles (Latitude: 39º56'15"N, Longitude: 82º56'51"W). The
radius of the outer ring is 35 nautical miles, and it extends to
FL180.
But from there it gets more confusing. During the President's
visit, there will be two smaller TFRs in effect for fairly short
durations. The first will be in effect from 1245-1345 EDT, and will
center on the APPLETON VORTAC (APE) 224 degree radial at 25.8
nautical miles (Latitude: 39º48'48"N, Longitude:
82º56'01"W). It has a radius of 10 nautical miles and extends
to FL180. The restricted airspace then shifts to a 10 NM circle
centered on the APPLETON VORTAC (APE) 248 degree radial at 22
nautical miles(Latitude: 39º58'32"N, Longitude:
83º00'25"W) from 1315-1515 EDT, and finally moves back to the
first 10 MN circle from 1430-1530 EDT.
The usual restrictions for flight operations apply. Given the
complexity of these TFRs, you'd be well advised to check for
updated NOTAMS before you unchock your airplane. Otherwise, you
might read about yourself being escorted out of restricted airspace
by NORAD F-16s.
The FAA says that all emergency/life saving flight (medical/law
enforcement/firefighting) operations must coordinate with ATC prior
to their departure at 614-338-8537 to avoid potential delays.
