New Five-Blade Propeller Approved For The Aircraft
The FAA has granted an STC to MT-Propeller for the installation of the MTV-27 composite prop on Cessna's 208 Supervan.
The company says its "Quiet Fan Jet Propeller" takes skydiving enthusiasts up in the air with a lot of new features which can only be provided by a natural composite 5-blade Propeller.
MT-Propeller President Gerd Muehlbauer said in a news release that due to the damping characteristics of the natural composite MT-Propeller blades, vibration is reduced up to incredible 60% on aircraft fuselage, reducing maintenance cost compared to a 4-bladed prop. The lightweight MT-Propeller blades reduces the weight of the original OEM propeller by approximately 31 lbs. Due to the reduced moment of inertia, the wear on the starter and battery is also reduced and cooler engine starts are the result, he said.
The extensive certification flight tests have shown that the high tech engineering computer technology used in the MT-Propeller design department has delivered a blade profile which is not just aesthetically pleasing, but also improves overall performance. Ground roll is reduced by 10%, which is approximately 162 feet, climb performance is improved by 5-8% and a speed is increased by 2-3 KTAS.
The ongoing engineering research at MT developed a propeller that reduced inside and outside noise significantly, allowing all models of the Cessna 208 Supervan series comply with the strict European noise regulations. Due to the smaller diameter ground clearance is increased for less blade tip erosion and the scimitar blade design has an unbeatable ramp appeal. Bonded on nickel alloy leading edges provide superior erosion protection of the blades in all weather conditions. Like all MT-Propeller naturally composite blades, the blades of the MTV-27 have no life limitation and can even be repaired in case of a ground strike.
The MTV-27 is priced at $45,700.
