Arizona Town Passes Strict UAV Regulations

City Says Local Rules Designed To Work With FAA Proposals

The city of Paradise Valley, AZ has passed a local law that includes some of the most strict UAV restrictions in the state.

Television station KSAZ reports that the ordinance has separate terms and conditions for private, public, and commercial uses of UAV, and requires registration of aircraft with the city for commercial users.

An attorney familiar with UAV laws told the station that the city attorney and the mayor of Paradise Valley used the FAA's proposed rules as a guideline for crafting the local ordinance in an effort to be sure there would not be conflicts between the local and federal rules. The attorney, James Arrowood, said that for hobbyists, UAVs need to be limited to private property with the permission of the property owner.

Registration reportedly can be done on the city's website, and can be completed on the same day that an operator wishes to fly his or her aircraft.
