Video Confirms Beavers Were Airdropped To New Homes In The 1950s

Idaho Wildlife Historians Found Video Showing Airborne Relocation

Wildlife officials in Idaho have finally confirmed what has been rumored for decades; that the department used airplanes to relocate beavers in the 1950s, airdropping them by parachute into new habitats.

In an Idaho Fish and Game Commission video unearthed by wildlife historians, conservation officers can be seen preparing the drop boxes for transport, and two beavers are loaded into each of the boxes.

The boxes are then loaded into an airplane and flown to a remote location in the Idaho mountains, where they are dropped from a fairly low altitude to the ground. The box opens on impact, and the beavers are on their way.

Television station KATC reports that the department used the same method to relocate other wildlife as well. Oh, and yes the video does have the classic 1950s-style narrator. "A new home for Mr. Beaver."
