Blue Angels Consider Options For Remainder Of The Season

At Least Two Appearances Cancelled Following Fatal Accident

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels demonstration team has cancelled its next two airshow appearances as it considers how to proceed for the rest of the summer.

The Blue Angels had been scheduled to fly at the Syracuse, NY and Dayton, OH airshows. The Navy's F/A-18 demonstration team will fill in for the Blue Angels at both of those shows, according to a report appearing in The Examiner.

Still to be decided is whether the Blue Angels will fly at the Vero Beach Airshow on June 24-25.

It has not been determined how the team will fill the #6 Opposing Solo position for the remainder of the season, if they do so at all. In the past, former Blue Angels pilots have been asked to return to the team to fill a vacancy. It is also possible for the team to perform without an opposing solo pilot.

Some in the air show community think the Blues may opt to return to flying at the Pensacola Beach Airshow July 15-16 in front of a hometown crowd.
