ANAHD Orders 77 Aircraft To Address Growing Demand

Airbus, Boeing, Embraer Snag Contracts For ANA To Address Demand

All Nippon Airways Holdings Inc. (ANAHD) announced the placement of significant orders from the world’s three largest commercial aircraft manufacturers as it embarks on an effort to both address growing demand as well as replacing some of its current aircraft with more modern and technologically advanced aircraft.

ANAHD is focused on enhancing its long-haul operations with the order of 18 Boeing 787-9 aircraft powered by GEnx engines. These  will be utilized on routes between Asia and North America as these have been identified as key to driving future growth. ANA is projecting a 50% increase in its capacity on such routes by 2030.

On domestic routes, ANA is introducing Embraer E190-E2 regional jets with an order for 15 and options for five additional as it is renewing part of its domestic fleet with what it calls technologically advanced aircraft. Deliveries of the E190-E2 are expected to begin in 2028.

For its single-aisle fleet, ANAHD ordered 14 Airbus A321neo and 12 Boeing 737-8 aircraft that includes eight firm orders and four options. For its low-cost subsidiary Peach Aviation brand, ANA ordered 10 Airbus A321neo for renewing its fleet and three A321XLR to enable longer routes. All of the Peach A321 aircraft will be powered by the CFM International LEAP-1A engines for improved fuel efficiency and operational range for further growth.

ANAHD said it also exercised purchase options from 2020 for five 787-9 and in 2019 for 10 787-8 aircraft. These will be used to both meet market demand and enable the resumption of its fleet renewal program which had been on hold due to the pandemic.

Koji Shibata, President and CEO of ANA Holdings commented, “This order will be the catalyst for improving the profitability of domestic flights and the expansion of international flights which is an area of future growth of our airline business. We will fully utilize this opportunity in order to become an industry-leading airline with sustainable growth.”
