DCA Terminal Shut Down Saturday By Broken Water Line

Flooding First Mistaken For New Decorative Fountain

DCA's Terminal C has reopened after flooding closed the US Airways terminal for more than 12 hours.  The broken supply line sent water surging through baggage claim, the shuttle ticket counter, and a security checkpoint at around 3pm on Saturday.

Flooding shut down the Terminal C baggage claim area and electricity was shut off to the US Airways pier there, said airport spokeswoman Tara Hamilton.

Crews worked throughout the night to clean up the flooded areas of Terminal C and restore electrical service.  Terminals A and B were not impacted by Saturday's flooding.

Mark Delligatti was quoted by The Washington Post saying he "honestly thought they'd put in a waterfall" in the baggage claim. "Isn't that lovely."  He realized it was not intentional when the water began seeping across the floor.

Flights on US Airways were cancelled until 10am on Sunday morning.
