New Digital TXCVR Debuts

MGL Avionics Launches V10 VHF Aviation Transceiver

MGL's just-released non-TSO'd aviation VHF transceiver is the first commercial product of its kind to utilize digital receiver and transmitter technology, according to the company. All audio processing and much of the receiver and transmitter circuitry is fully digital, resulting in audio quality the company says is not available with traditional technology.

the V10 VHF Airband transceiver is based on modern digital signal processing technology with a built in multi-mode dual circuit intercom system.

The V10 fits in a round 3 1/8" instrument hole, but has a mounting depth of only 2.2" + connectors. The shallowest mounting depth of any aviation radio. This is possible due to the use of all digital components. It weighs only about half a pound, but offers a full 6 Watts of transmit power. The digital interface allows users to set frequency on the radio from an MGL Avionics EFIS or any equipment capable of setting frequency on the SL40 radio.

The unit also features a built-in VOX / VOGAD (voice-operated gain-adjusting device) Intercom, a high quality intercom system. Intended to be used as a primary intercom, there are several modes of operation for the, including VOX options and MGL Avionics' proprietary VOGAD system. VOGAD works by adjusting the gain of the microphone as your speak based on the level of your voice. This has the effect of eliminating background/engine noise between your words as you speak and can be used with simple passive headsets to produce the results normally obtained using expensive active noise cancelling headsets. It doesn't 'break squelch' like a VOX intercom, but is voice activated and constantly adjusts to your voice level.
