Classic Aero-TV: Aero-Ingenuity – One Man’s Quad-Rotor Odyssey

From 2015 (YouTube Version): Some Guys Just Know How To Max Out Their Capabilities... And Their Enjoyment... Of Sport Aviation

While ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, was hanging around E-Fest 2015, he saw a lot of interesting aircraft and met with some very stimulating people. Towards the end of the show Jim ran into a gentleman that was simply known as “Quad Guy,” and he could be likened to a Marvel Comics superhero. A superhero, at least, as it relates to flying quadcopters.

Brian Mugele is tipping towards the extreme edge when it comes to quadcopter flying. In the video, you’ll find a guy that liked what he saw in quads but knew there had to be more fun and a cheaper way to do it. He started experimenting with various software modifications and applied them to quadcopters that he designed himself to be inexpensive and crashworthy.

If the term crashworthy seemed a little unusual, you’ll understand when you watch the video and see what Mugele does with his creations. He explains that the only way he could learn to perform the maneuvers you’ll see demonstrated was by trial and error, which is a euphemism for a “lot of crashes.”

This is a great video; it’s a lot of fun to watch, and you’ll see that model flying can be taken to the extreme.
