K-State Salina Adds Cessna 421B To Maintenance Training Fleet

Twin Donated To School's A&P Program

The growing fleet of learning aircraft at Kansas State University has expanded once more with the gift of a pressurized twin-engine Cessna 421B. The piston-powered aircraft was a gift from K-State supporters and aviation enthusiasts Kenneth and Tamara Knight.

The airplane is already being used by the university in aviation maintenance educational programs as part of the airframe and powerplant degree track. Students can learn procedures on the cabin-class twin aircraft that continues on flight status, allowing students to pair a practical element with concepts taught in class.

"This donation allows us to take learning to an even higher level than before," said Andrew Smith, assistant professor of aviation. "For the students, it is a true hands-on experience with a flying airplane, one that requires constant care and maintenance."

K-State, among top five aviation universities in the nation, has a fleet of 50 learning aircraft and more Master Certified Flight Instructors than any other college or university in the country.

One of the fastest growing colleges within the university, K-State at Salina offers a high-tech campus and a well-rounded Big 12 university experience shared by 1,000 degree-seeking students. Another 2,000 students are served through various courses and advanced learning opportunities.
