NBAA Announces Recipients Of 2018 Leadership Conference Scholarships

Five Individuals To Receive $2,000 Equivalent To Cover Leadership Conference Expenses

The NBAA has announced that the association’s Business Aviation Management Committee (BAMC) has selected five individuals as recipients of 2018 Leadership Conference Scholarships.

Each scholarship includes a value equivalent to $2,000 to cover expenses associated with attending NBAA’s 2018 Leadership Conference, which will be held Feb. 26-28 in San Diego, CA. The conference is designed for current and future leaders in all facets of the business aviation industry, from aircraft operators to vendors that provide products and services within the industry.

The Leadership Conference Scholarship, now in its 14th year, is sponsored in 2018 by donations from BAMC members. Representatives from each of these companies will be on hand at the conference to recognize this year’s recipients.

The 2018 recipients are:

  • Daniel Booth: A Gulfstream pilot for Haymon Sports, LLC, Booth is dedicated to striving every day to be the best pilot he can be. Attending the conference will provide him with an opportunity to enhance his leadership, a quality he believes is essential for business aircraft pilots. “From single-pilot aircraft all the way up to large cabin jets, leadership can help an operation run smoothly and efficiently,” he said.
  • Destry Jacobs: A senior at Arizona State University majoring in aeronautical management technologies while concurrently pursuing her master’s degree in aviation management and human factors, Jacobs exemplifies dedication to aviation and passion for community service. Whether spearheading fundraising for Colleges Against Cancer or serving as an industry ambassador with Women in Aviation, Jacobs is an example of the next generation of aviation leaders.
  • Mykhailo Matiukh: A Ukrainian national who learned English so he could emigrate to the United States to pursue his dream of becoming a business aviation operations manager, Matiukh is an avionics intern with Bombardier Learjet Inc. He is in the process of earning his airframe and powerplant certificate to take the next step in his career. “His ‘what’s next’ attitude is every employer’s dream,” said Matiukh’s manager.
  • Natalia Welton-Torres: In addition to her sterling academic record and charitable involvement, Welton-Torres has demonstrated her passion for business aviation by founding the Kent State Business Aviation Association, which promotes career opportunities within the industry. A junior, who is majoring in aeronautics, she wants to work in FBO management after graduating.
  • Kevin Whelan: A junior at Western Michigan University majoring in aviation flight science, Whelan has immersed himself in all aspects of business aviation as he works toward his goal of starting a flight department. “Attending the NBAA Leadership Conference will allow me to hone my leadership and communication skills while gaining further insight into a world that fascinates me,” he said.
