Gulfstream Updates and Enhances G280

Adds Improvements to “Super Midsize” Jet

Gulfstream Aerospace has recently enhanced its popular mid-sized G280 following increased interest in the segment and wider business jet market. Referred to as a "super-midsize leader" by Gulfstream, the G280 has been facing increasing competition as the market heats up in the wake of 2020.

Targeting areas of refinement that will pay the greatest dividends for discriminating customers, Gulfstream enhanced the G280 with cabin refinements, flight deck upgrades, safety systems, and climate controls.

A new cabin improvement to the already 100%-fresh-air system is Gulfstream's plasma ionization air system, which neutralizes pathogens and allergens, a boon to operators promoting passenger wellness in a time of increased health awareness. The cabin offers multiple layout options, seating up to 10 passengers with a 4-place conference table. Entertainment and productivity are addressed, with Gulfstream's proprietary cabin management and high-def entertainment systems, including a high-speed Ka-band satellite connectivity system.

A new avionics upgrade to Version 3.6.1, with SiriusXM graphic weather data, dual electronic charts, and a surface management system (SMS) which provides aural and visual cues to alert pilots to unsafe ground and arrival operations. Leveraging the new information capabilities in flight, weather avoidance warnings help pilots avoid windshear and vertical patterns with ample time to spare.

For operators familiar with the aircraft, Gulfstream has also increased the validation intervals for vertical separation minimums to 96 months, up from 24. The Controller-Pilot Datalink Communication is also now FANS-E compliant. The G280 is certified for steep approaches as well as Stage 5 FAA noise standards. Unlike many of its competitors in its class, it received the Visual Advantage credit. Operators can authorize dispatch and begin instrument approaches in low-visibility conditions below published approach minima.

“The Gulfstream team continues its commitment to the future of the G280 program, ensuring adherence to the most stringent standards, whether for safety, performance or noise emissions,” said Mark Burns, president, Gulfstream. “Aircraft noise abatement goals are vital to ensuring the livelihood of the aviation and aerospace industries and demonstrating our efforts to be good neighbors to those who live or work near airfields, airports or flight paths.”
