DFW Airport Awards Project To Balfour Beatty Construction Joint Venture

$900 Million For A Seven-Year Terminal Development Program

As part of a joint venture team known as BARC, Balfour Beatty Construction was selected for $900 million in preconstruction and construction services for DFW International Airport’s seven-year Terminal Development Program.

Terminals A, B, C, and E at the airport are approximately 36 years old and primarily consist of original structures and building systems. Through the program, the airport seeks to improve efficiency, passenger processing, and aesthetic appearance for all four terminals. Design concepts call for consolidation of concessions areas into villages similar to the airport’s Terminal D.

The BARC team will be responsible for renovating terminals A and C and will build a rail station to connect future routes for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) and Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) to the airport. The project scope includes replacing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, improving roadways and infield parking garages, and preparing existing areas for new conveyance systems for baggage handling. The phased project also includes building temporary facilities to relocate occupants of areas that are under renovation.

“Our goal is to ensure that terminal operations - from security to baggage systems to concession sales - continue to run smoothly throughout the project,” explains Karl Joeris, Operations Director for Balfour Beatty Construction. “We seek to minimize the impact on travelers, airlines, and onsite businesses.”

“We are proud to be part of a project that will help provide a better experience for travelers at DFW Airport,” continues Joeris. “From a construction standpoint, it is an exciting and challenging project. And, as a frequent traveler at the airport myself, I am looking forward to seeing the airport’s vision for the terminals come to life.”

BARC is a joint venture formed to provide construction management services for DFW International Airport. BARC firms include Balfour Beatty Construction, Azteca Enterprises, H.J. Russell & Company, and CARCON Industries. Collectively, the team brings 49 years of aviation and renovation experience.
