Airborne-Unmanned 05.07.19: Remote ID, Know Before You Fly, Talon v2.5

Also: NGC's Firebird, AiRXOS Approval, North Dakota Invests, Directed Energy Systems Down Drones

U.S. Senators Edward J. Markey (D-MA) and John Thune (R-SD), members of the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, have sent a letter to the DoT calling on the FAA to swiftly publish a proposed rule for remote identification of UAS, also called drones.

Remote identification could permit the public, the FAA, law enforcement, and others to remotely track and identify drones and their operators during flight. This would help address the rise of unauthorized drone flights in sensitive areas, including near airports and large gatherings. In April, a drone flew over Fenway Park during a Boston Red Sox game, potentially endangering fans, players, and stadium workers. AUVSI  and AMA have signed a memorandum of agreement with the FAA to solidify each organization’s commitment to expanding and improving the Know Before You Fly (KBYF) education campaign. The agreement was announced by Carl Burleson, acting deputy director of the FAA, at AUVSI XPONENTIAL 2019. It establishes the roles, responsibilities and financial involvement of all parties for the campaign during the next three years. Target Arm officially unveiled Talon v2.5 at the AUVSI Xponential Show in Chicago. Talon 2.5 is a Universal Launch and Recovery (ULaR) platform, that enables drone package delivery to and from trucks, or any moving platform, while moving, at speeds over 65 mph. Talon v2.5 encompasses all past capabilities and already incorporates many new innovations, to include computer controls and programmability, full pop-up technology, minimized airflow disturbances with a wide-open breech and a pre-production aircraft-grade aluminum infrastructure. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unmanned!!!
