Applications Open for Low-Time & Flight Students for Free Upset Recovery Training
Aviation Performance Solutions has announced the completed training of last year's winner of the firm's Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT).

2022 APS UPRT Scholarship winner Emily Hogenson finished her Professional Pilot UPRT course earlier this month, building on her body of skill with a fresh new set of advanced pilot skills. The course puts emphasis on the ability to recognize, prevent or recover from an aircraft upset, with additional focus on "advanced manual flight operations". Airmanship is one of the hallmarks of the UPRT program at Aviation Performance Solutions, instilled in everyone from private pilots to military clientele.
Each year, the company awards the UPRT Scholarship to a deserving pilot currently in flight school or starting their professional aviation career. The course provides comprehensive training integrating academics and on-aircraft instruction to mitigate the risk of Loss of Control-Inflight (LOC-I), which continues to be the premier cause of fatalities across all sectors of aviation.
“I have been very fortunate in my aviation career to have extensive experience in the all-attitude environment. Providing training to students like Emily offers me a chance to expose pilots to environments which many pilots never get to experience,” said Emily’s advanced instructor pilot Norm ‘DQ’ Dequier. “We can never be properly prepared to handle these environments without seeing them, and watching students like Emily rapidly understand the challenges of these environments and grasp the strategies to overcome them is very rewarding."
“LOC-I is something that every pilot should prepare for by learning strategies to overcome it,” Emily related. “APS sets the standard for training pilots on the tactics needed to help mitigate these occurrences as well as solutions to recovering from unanticipated upsets. With knowledgeable and personable instructors, upset training with APS is something I would recommend every pilot should experience at least once and try to stay current by attending regularly!”
