MACC to Lease Columbia Regional Airport Terminal

Missouri Flight School to Lease Space for Aviation Program

Moberly Area Community College of Missouri will lease 1,900 square feet of space at the Columbia Regional Airport for the cost of $15 a sq. ft.

The school will also be responsible for buildout costs, adding about $287,320 to the tab. The new expansion will go to support the College's Aviation program, which will lead to an associate's degree in applied sciences. Of course, the flight training is the real prize in the program, like most - students will come away with at least their Private Pilot, Commercial, Instrument, and Multi-Engine tickets, with an elective CFI course offered to cap it all off.

The first duration goes into effect on January 1st of 2024, with options to renew as the relationship continues through 2025. The College had previously worked with the Columbia City Council on an agreement to provide commercial trucker instruction and training in the area. That program saw part of the airport's open lot acreage used for the driving portion of CDL training, sending students on a closed course with school-owned buses.

"Workforce development programs are a key priority for MACC," president Jeff Lashley said. "Our ability to offer an Aviation Technology program would simply not be possible without this partnership."
