Body Of Skydiver Recovered From A Wisconsin Lake

Instructor Was Involved In A Tandem Jump That Was Blown Off Course

The body of a skydiving instructor was recovered from Lake Butte Des Morts near Omro, WI late Tuesday after he and his student were blown off course on a jump earlier that day.

The name of the instructor has not been released. Television station WGBA in Green Bay, WI reports that divers from the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department searched the lake for more than five hours Tuesday after the instructor went missing.

The pair reportedly jumped about noon Tuesday, and were blown off course over the lake. The student made it safely out of the water, but the instructor did not. Emergency responders said that they were contacted by a lakefront homeowner who said a kayaker had flipped over in the lake. When they arrived, they found that what the homeowners thought was a kayak was actually the parachute, according to the Fon du Lac Reporter.

Winnebago County Sheriff John Matz said that there was severe weather building up in the area. He suggested that wind from the building storm could have blown the pair off course.

Television station WINS reports that the two had jumped from about 10,000 feet. The body was recovered at about 1730 CDT.

The instructor was affiliated with Skydive Adventure in Omro, which declined to comment.
