Aero-TV: The New Rotax ‘Big/Bad!’ - The Long-Awaited Rotax 915iS

The Target Of The Rotax 915is Is Easy Maintenance And Low Operating Cost…

The Rotax 912 series of engines has had a long and productive relationship with the light sport aircraft industry and airplane homebuilders. Everyone knows that Rotax is working on a new engine, it’s called the 915iS, and we’re anxiously waiting to find out what it has to offer. ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, took the opportunity at EAA AirVenture 2016 to talk with Marc Becker, the Aircraft Business Manager for Rotax.

The Rotax 912 series of engines have a power rating of 80 to 100 horsepower, and the 914 series pushed that up to 115 horsepower. Now, the 915iS is moving it up even further to 135 horsepower.

According to Becker, the 915iS is well along in its testing and they’re hoping to have the engine out by the end of next year. As Becker describes the features of the engine, you’ll get a good look at the 915iS in the video. Becker said Rotax is responding to the customer’s request for a higher horsepower engine with the same ease of operating costs and maintenance as the existing 912 series.

The Rotax 915iS is an engine to watch, and this video gives you a great preview.
