USAF F-15 Down, Pilots Eject, Found Safe

An Air Force F-15E fighter that went down late Wednesday, crashed in a wooded area in Johnston County, North Carolina, at approximately 1700 EST. The impact area is unpopulated and no substantial threat to persons or property was found.

Flown with a two man flight crew, both flightcrew members are reported to have ejected safely and have been recovered. Local media reports suggest that one crewman suffered leg and other injuries, but no word has been given as to the condition or injuries of the other crewman. One pilot reportedly landed in a tree and was suspended some 30 feet off the ground before being rescued about an hour after the accident.

The $31.5 million F-15 Strike Eagle had been operating from Seymour Johnson AFB.
