Fourth Edition of ASA’s “Lesson Plans to Train Like You Fly” Announced

A Perennial Favorite Updated and Digitized

On 30 May 2023, Newcastle, Washington-based Aviation Supplies & Academics, Inc. (ASA) announced the release of the fourth edition of its popular Lesson Plans to Train Like You Fly publication.

Written by Arlynn McMahon as a guide for Certified Flight Instructors (CFIs), the tome presents lesson plans in the form of scenario-based maneuver briefings. A rich and proven resource, Lesson Plans to Train Like You Fly is useful to both active CFIs and persons preparing for their CFI written and practical tests.

In addition to critical information previously published in Train Like You Fly: A Flight Instructor’s Guide to Scenario-Based Training, the newly-released fourth edition includes current best-practices, and tried-and-true advice germane to teaching both visual and instrument flight.

Intended to complement Part 61 and 141 syllabi and the FAA Practical Test Standards, Lesson Plans to Train Like You Fly conveys effective means by which to effectively brief and teach the skills and maneuvers intrinsic to the attainment of Private and Commercial Pilot certification and the instrument airplane rating.

Lesson Plans to Train Like You Fly includes templates, checklists, and assignments conducive to the development of proper flight preparation habits. The book also presents objective standards by which CFIs may accurately determine students’ readiness to act in the capacity of Pilot-In-Command (PIC). Such tools are at once helpful to applicants preparing for initial CFI check-rides and active CFIs prepping students for major flight training milestones the likes of first solo flights, solo cross-country journeys, and check-rides.

Parties interested in acquiring or learning more about Lesson Plans to Train Like You Fly are invited to visit ASA’s website. The book’s printed softcover iteration retails for $29.95. eBook versions in eBook PD and eBook EB formats are available for $24.95.
