Singapore Airlines Says No To A380 Nookie

Superjumbo Beds Are Not For Rocking

Despite the airlines’ offering of the world’s first airborne bed for two on its Airbus A380, Singapore Airlines cabin crew will be put to the test to police amorous couples, according to the London Times.

"If couples used our double beds to engage in inappropriate activity, we would politely ask them to desist," said SIA spokesman Stephen Forshaw. "There are things that are acceptable on an aircraft and things that aren’t, and the rules for behavior in our double beds are the same ones that apply throughout the aircraft."

One might believe with so many passengers on board, surely the cabin crew will be too busy to notice. But that wasn’t the case for Tony and Julie Elwood from Perth, Australia.

They booked the first A380 Double Suite, on the first commercial A380 flight last week... but hardly had a moment of privacy for a kiss, or anything else more intimate. In addition to an observant crew, a parade of nosey journalists also came knocking.

The Elwoods weren’t too impressed with Singapore’s strait-laced attitude.

"So they’ll sell you a double bed, and give you privacy and endless champagne -- and then say you can’t do what comes naturally?" asked Tony Elwood, a vigorous 76 years-of-age. "Seems a bit strange."

"They seem to have done everything they can to make it romantic, short of bringing round oysters," added Julie, 51. "I’d say they shouldn’t really complain, should they?

"Though I don’t think they’ll have anything to worry about from us -- the flight is so busy with people coming to see the suites, we wouldn’t have the opportunity," Julie lamented.
