AS365 Dauphin Down Off English Coast

Six Lost, One Person Remains Missing

British officials fear all seven people onboard a Eurocopter AS365 Dauphin helicopter were killed when the helo went down off the northeast English coast Wednesday.

The Associated Press reports six bodies have been recovered so far from the waters of Morecambe Bay, east of the Isle of Man.

"On board were seven people, two crew and five passengers," said Detective Superintendent Mick Gradwell of the Lancashire Constabulary. "I am sad to say at the moment we have recovered six bodies and the search continues for the outstanding person."

Aberdeen-based energy company Centrica PLC reports the helo (file photo of type, above right) was ferrying workers from a gas rig in the East Irish Sea.

Two Royal Air Force helicopters are assisting lifeboats and other vessels in the search for the remaining person.

It is not yet known what may have caused the accident.
