Airborne 08.08.18: NATA v AOPA, Continental Builds!, New CAF Boss

Also: NBAA Still Fighting For KSMO, NTSB Staff, Airport Fund Scandal, NavMonster Updates

NATA is continuing to 'educate the public' in light of the AOPA campaign recently referred to as “Denial of Airport Access & Egregious FBO Fees.”

NATA urges the industry and public to gain a better understanding of the landscape of general aviation to avoid potential unintended consequences derived from AOPA’s misguided assumptions on pricing at publicly-funded airports. “We believe AOPA’s initiative risks increasing costs for users, will redirect resources from important operational and safety projects at airports, and fails to recognize how airports carry out mandates from TSA and satisfy its rigorous requirements,” NATA President Marty Hiller stated. Foundation work at Continental Motors Group's new manufacturing facility in Alabama has gotten underway, according to the company. The new plant will be nearly 275,000 square feet, with the majority being dedicated to advanced engine and parts manufacturing for all Continental Motors Group product lines. It will be populated with brand new manufacturing equipment and include a special area designated for evaluation of new manufacturing techniques and processes, including additive manufacturing and automation. The Board of Directors of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) has chosen Henry “Hank” Coates to serve as their new president/CEO. “We are very enthusiastic to bring on Hank as our new president,” said CAF Chief of Staff, Doug Rozendaal. Hank Coates has over thirty-four years of professional experience, nearly twenty-three of which were spent in the Navy. He flew numerous aircraft throughout his tenure and spent two tours directing foreign military flight training. Hank also worked as a fixed wing flight instructor, as well as serving in the role of senior instructor for new flight instructors. He concluded his Navy career while serving as Executive Officer at NAS Meridian. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
