Aero-TV: Timber Tiger Speedster Prepares for Takeoff

Classy Aircraft Nears Production After Successful Ground Tests

Timber Tiger Aircraft is nearing the manufacturing phase of its Speedster after successfully completing ground and taxi testing. Following in the footsteps of previous Timber Tiger designs, the aircraft blends classic style with modern engineering.

Flight testing of the Speedster was originally scheduled to take place in time for the 2024 EAA Oshkosh AirVenture, but faced several delays due to weather risks. However, Pfannenstiel and Timber Tiger are confident in the aircraft's performance, stating that it "handles really well” on the ground.

The classy-meets-modern design boasts impressive specifications, including a 49 kt dirty and 58-59 kt clean stall speed. Using a 158-horsepower Verner Scarlet 9S, it offers a cruise speed of 120-130 knots and a max speed of 165 knots to ensure safe aerobatic handling.

The Speedster features a classic aesthetic reminiscent of other Timber Tiger aircraft, like the Jenny and ST-L, while integrating a modern propeller, tailwheel design, and carbon fiber accents.

"The builder isn’t confined to a box," Pfannenstiel commented. "It’s not a replica, it’s whatever they want." Construction of the kit is published to take around 1,200 hours, though customers have been reporting even less. The all-in price sits at $80-85k depending on the needs of the buyer.

Timber Tiger is now taking reservations, aiming to begin manufacturing by October or November 2024.
