Two Fatally Injured In Colorado Mid-Air Collision

Instructor, Student Identified By Local Authorities

A flight instructor and his student were fatally injured Friday when the Cessna 172 they were flying was involved in a mid-air collision with a Cessna 180, according to police in Longmont, CO, where the accident occurred.

The instructor, 30-year-old Ryan Brungart of Srasburg, CO, and his student, 64-year-old Edward "Lee" Omohundro of Evergreen were on a training flight when their plane collided with the 180. The Denver Post reports that plane, flown by 72-year-old Beverly Cameron of Erie, CO, went down near Vance Brand Municipal Airport. Cameron survived the accident.

The training flight originated at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan airport, according to Longmont Police Commander Jeff Satur. The 172 was owned by Rocky Mountain Air Aviation Services of Boulder. Cameron owned the 1955 C180 she was flying.

The NTSB is in the process of investigating the accident.
