Singapore Airlines A380 Diverts To Azerbaijan

Loss Of Cabin Pressure Led To Emergency Landing

A Singapore Airlines A380 made what was described as an emergency landing in Baku, Azerbaijan following a loss of cabin pressure, according to media reports. While the airplane's oxygen masks in the passenger cabin were released from their compartments, none of the 494 people on board the aircraft was injured.

USA Today relays a report from the Associated Press indicating that the airplane was on a flight from London to Singapore when the cabin pressure fell, though a cause for that pressure drop has not been determined. A passenger said that the flight was at its cruising altitude of about FL360 when it suddenly descended. "I thought we were all going to die," said passenger Nathan Phelps.

Singapore Airlines posted a notice on its Facebook page that the superjumbo airliner landed at Baku, Azerbaijan "uneventfully" at 0403 EST.

Airbus said in a statement that that it is "following up on this issue and providing technical assistance to the airline."
