Aero-TV: JR’s Len Sabato – State of The Art R/C Model Control Systems

Controllability Is Key -- No Matter The Size Of The Airframe

This video is about model aviation and it’s a “must watch” if you are a general aviation pilot that has wondered about flying an RC aircraft, but really don’t know much about how it works.

While at eFest 2015, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, asks Len Sabato, the Managing Director of JR Americas, to talk about the basics of RC model aircraft control as if he was talking to an audience of general aviation pilots.

Sabato starts off by speaking about the controller that the pilot uses to fly the aircraft. Advances have been so profound that it’s hard to comprehend just how sophisticated these systems are while still being priced for hobbyist. He explains how the controller is more than simply a signal going to the aircraft; it is now a true system of telemetry communication.

Next, the conversation turns to the mechanisms used to control the aircraft. Sabato describes how the various components within the aircraft operate and how they can be applied to aircraft weighing only a few ounces up to aircraft that can weigh well over 100 pounds. As Sabato talks about the equipment, the video gives you a visual demonstration.

The video concludes with a look into the future, but the way RC model aircraft are progressing in technology, that future could be tomorrow.
