Homebuilt Project Stalled? Help Is A Call Away

Sport Plane LLC Can Help You Get Past The Bumpy Bits

So you're building your dream plane, determined to make it ready for burning holes in a bright blue sky. There's just one problem -- your dream plane has sat untouched in the garage for so long that your wife has started draping laundry on the spars. Well, there's a company in Meridian, ID, that's here to help.

Sport Plane LLC was established in February 2004 to provide builder assistance, aftermarket parts and training to owners of experimental aircraft. While the company specializes in tube-and-fabric aircraft, the people who run Sport Plane say they can help with any amateur-built experimental aircraft -- either in your garage or at their Meridian facility.

Sport Plane's John McBean says the right kind of help will get you into the air a lot more quickly than if you work alone.

McBean says his operation puts a premium on working within the commercial assistance guidelines of AC 20-139, FAA Form 8000-38, and the Major Portion rule of FAR 21.191(g).

Of course, once you build it, who'll fly it? While a lot of new aircraft owners already have their private pilot or sport pilot tickets, Most of their time and experience has been accumulated in a Cessna 150, 172 or Piper Cherokee's. Their new aircraft could well be a high performance plane capable of performance almost double that of their current experience. McBean says his company can help with a variety of pilot training needs in addition to builder assistance.
