The 40th anniversary of the ultralight vehicle and Part 103 will be celebrated this summer at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022.

FAR Part 103, which put regulations on ultralight vehicles effective October 4, 1982, marked the beginning of ultralights as we know them. These regulations include operating rules, the definition of what qualifies as an ultralight, and more. Stratolaunch, the Seattle-based aerospace company and hypersonic flight-test pioneer, cut short a test-flight of its mammoth carrier aircraft, Roc. The twin-fuselage, six-engined, high-wing, mono-plane—which takes its name from the Roc, an enormous mythological bird of prey—has been undergoing flight-testing at Mojave Air and Space Port in preparation for upcoming missions during which it will serve as a launch-vehicle for rocket-powered, hypersonic, test-aircraft. The Biden administration has scrapped President Donald Trump’s red, white and blue design for the new generation of presidential aircraft. Biden made the move after an Air Force review suggested the paint-scheme—of all things—would raise costs and delay the delivery of two 747-800s Boeing is currently modifying to replace the existing Presidential fleet of two aging Boeing 747-200 aircraft. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
