One Pilot Lands Safely, One Ejects And Also Survives

Two Marine Corps F/A-18s collided Wednesday off the coast of San Diego, but fortunately, both pilots survived the accident.

The Marine Corps Times reports that according to military officials, one pilot landed safely at a nearby base, and the other ejected, landing in the Pacific Ocean.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Mayday call was received by the Coast Guard and Navy SAR teams just after noon local time. The pilot who went into the water was rescued about 30 minutes later, according to the report. Both were reported in stable condition Wednesday afternoon.

The aircraft belong to the “Black Knights” of Fighter Attack Squadron 314 stationed at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station.

No further details were made available. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
