Fun? -- Yes! Toys? -- NO! Today's Model Aircraft Are Technologically Impressive

While at EAA AirVenture 2013, ANN CEO and Editor-in-Chief, Jim Campbell, looks into another segment of aviation to explore the state of model aviation art. This led him to talk to Matt Andren at the Horizon Hobby display booth. Matt said the rapidly advancing technology in the world of model planes has made it more fun and more people are participating.

The advances in design and the advent of electric powered RC planes allowed the costs of RC modeling to drop significantly.  Andren also addressed the increased type of RC flying such as helicopters for everyone. Automatic gyro stabilization has made it easier to fly RC planes and helicopters, and it is now easier and safer to learn how to fly RC aircraft.

The modeling world even includes RC simulators for home computers. If you haven’t paid attention to RC flying in the last few years, watch out…this video may get you hooked.
