Icelandair Joins Airbus Club With A321LR

First Step In Airline’s Fleet Renewal Program

Icelandair announced it has taken delivery of its first Airbus aircraft, the A321LR, which signals the start of its fleet renewal program and makes it the newest Airbus operator.

The aircraft is the first of four to be leased from SMBC Aviation Capital Limited, and the airline will also be getting 13 A321XLRs.

Icelandair’s A321LR is configured with 187 seats in two classes – 22 Business class and 165 Economy class seats. The cabin features XL bins that provide 65% for stowage space compared to previous aircraft so boarding is more relaxed for both passengers and cabin crew.

The aircraft also has advanced connectivity for the entire flight for modern inflight entertainment. The newest lighting system enhances the overall passenger experience while traveling.

With its extended range, the A321LR is capable of flying trips up to 4,000 nm so it is ideally suited for transatlantic routes. The aircraft has cutting-edge technology and advanced fuel efficiency that yields at least 20% fuel savings and CO2 reduction compared to previous single-aisle aircraft.

Like all other Airbus aircraft the A321LR can operate with up to 50% SAF, which is targeted to increase to 100% by 2030. These replacement aircraft Icelandair is bringing in support the airline’s sustainability initiatives with regard to both operational efficiency and significantly reducing CO2 emissions.

Airbus has delivered or has orders from over 90 customers for more than 6,700 A321neo aircraft worldwide.
