Duncan Aviation Releases Update To “Straight Talk About WAAS” Ebook

Helps Explain Workings Of Wide Area Augmentation System

Duncan Aviation recently released an update to its “Straight Talk About WAAS” ebook, which gives operators a closer look at the Wide Area Augmentation System for use in the United States for IFR approaches. This upgrade to GPS satellite navigation is a critical step in the FAA’s NextGen plans.

Duncan Aviation experts compiled information to explain WAAS, including WAAS GPS satellites, operational facts, capable units and the applicable regulations and certification in an easy-to-read ebook.

Matt Nelson, Duncan Aviation Manager of Satellite Operations, knows there are many operators wondering if WAAS is available for their aircraft, what is necessary to have it installed, and how WAAS integrates with ADS-B.

“A lot has changed since this book was first published back in 2009,” Nelson says. “With congressional approval for the reorganization of the national airspace system and the mandatory avionics upgrades which have been enacted as a result, WAAS has become a very relevant topic.”

Nelson explains the worldwide reorganization of inter-continental and trans-oceanic routes using ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast) and FANS-1/A (Future Air Navigation System) is solely reliant upon hyper-sensitive WAAS GPS information. “We have done the research and can assist customers with any questions they may have regarding WAAS,” he said.
