Engine Repair And Test Facility In CA Closing

GE Aviation Shutters Ontario, CA Operation

A dip in cargo traffic has caused GE Aviation to close its engine repair and test facility at Los Angeles/Ontario International Airport by the end of the year. 18 people had been employed at the shop.

Twelve of those walked away from the plant for the last time last Friday. The facility performed post-overhaul and repair engine testing before the engines were returned to service. Some minor repair work was also done at the plant.

The Business Courier reports that GE notified the workers of the closing about a year ago. The last six employees will be tasked with closing up the facility, and will be offered benefits ranging from early retirement to preferential placement should they decide to continue working. The facility once employed 700 people, but had been in decline for several years.
