Omni Air International Selects Wingspeed's XLLink For Its Planes

DC-10s, 757s Will Stay Connected Electronically

Aero-News learned this week Tulsa, OK-based charter airline Omni Air International (OAI) has selected Wingspeed Corporation's XLLink Flight Information Architecture (XFIA) to manage automated paperless operations, voice, and messaging on its fleet of DC-10 and B757-200 aircraft.

Wingspeed's XFIA is an end-to-end, integrated airborne network platform that combines hardware and software that enables each aircraft to stay connected to the airline's ground network through a range of sub-networks such as VHF, the Iridium Satellite Network, and Wi-Fi. Wingspeed XLLink integrates each aircraft with an airline's existing maintenance and operations software and offers a broad range of ACARS-type services to the aircraft such as text messaging, flight tracking, weather, OOOI messaging, PDCs, and D-ATIS.

"XLLink turns each of our aircraft into a node on our network connected continuously to our operations center," said OAI Senior Director or Corporate Development, Robert Jared. "XLLink's ability to integrate directly with our maintenance and operations software significantly improves operational efficiency and eliminates many of the paper processes used by other airlines."

Dave Borkowski, Wingspeed's Vice President of Sales, noted "OAI is a leader in the charter airline industry that understands the significant efficiencies gained by connecting each of their aircraft to their ground network. The ability to globally communicate, track, and electronically transfer data and documents via XFIA intrinsically lowers costs."

At OAI, Wingspeed's XLLink System is fully integrated with the Flight Explorer Professional  Aircraft Situational Display (ASD) system to deliver a common operating picture to OAI dispatch and management personnel. OAI can now employ a fully integrated system that allows dispatchers to track their aircraft and send data and text messages to and from the aircraft through Flight Explorer's ASD utilizing Wingspeed's XLLink network platform.

The XLLink network will provide full message assurance, data encryption, and compression.
