American Flight Academy In Connecticut Shuttered Following Two Fatal Accidents

Students who had prepaid tens of thousands of dollars for flight training at American Flight Academy in Connecticut have been left holding an empty bag after the flight school closed following two fatal accidents. And some who came from overseas are having to immediately return to their home countries, as their student visas were cancelled by the flight school.

The school has closed both its Hartford and New Haven, CT locations over the past three months. One of the school's airplanes, students and instructors were involved in a fatal accident near the Pratt & Whitney facility in Hartford last year. The instructor survived the accident, and it is being investigated as a possible act of terrorism.

At least three students filed a lawsuit against the academy recently for breach of contract, according to the online news site The Republic. They say that they began instruction last October, and paid between $28,000 and $39,000 each for the training needed to become commercial pilots.

Two of those students have already returned to their home countries, while a third said he would be transferring to a different flight school, according to the report.
