Cutter Aviation ABQ Installs First Aspen EFD1000

PHX Facility Also Approved For Installs

Cutter Aviation announced Thursday the first Aspen Avionics EFD1000 Evolution PFD (Primary Flight Display) installation by the Cutter Aviation avionics service center in Albuquerque, NM. The installation, on a Piper Arrow, was part of the FAA certification process that paved the way for full certification of the EFD1000 PFD in March.

ANN has reported extensively on the EF1000 Evolution system, aimed at the population of older high-performance single-engine general aviation aircraft. The EFD1000 is an affordable electronic flight instrument display system that will provide owners the increased safety margin through enhanced situational awareness in-flight without requiring a radical and costly redesign of their existing panel.

The EFD1000 fits into the space occupied by the attitude indicator, and replaces the HSI and VSI in a standard installation. The simplicity of an EFD1000 installation means less down time for an aircraft and lower cost of labor for the owner.

"The situational awareness that the EFD1000 provides is much higher than anything else that’s available in this budget range," said Cutter Aviation avionics shop foreman Tom Parks. "It gives older aircraft a new lease on life to compete with aircraft rolling out of factories now!"

Cutter Aviation anticipates installation of both the EFD1000 Pilot PFD and EFD1000 Pro PFD to last two-and-a-half weeks for a standard installation, at either its Albuquerque Sunport location (ABQ,) or its Phoenix Sky Harbor facility (PHX). Cutter personnel note customers may chose to upgrade other avionics at that time, as well, to take full advantage of the EFD1000.
