AD: Airbus Defense and Space S.A. Airplanes

AD NUMBER: 2018-18-10

PRODUCT: All Airbus Defense and Space S.A. Model CN-235, CN-235-100, CN-235-200, CN-235-300, and C-295 airplanes.

ACTION: Final Rule.

SUMMARY:  This AD was prompted by reports that cracks were found on the door mechanism actuator shaft assemblies of the nose landing gear (NLG).

This AD requires repetitive inspections of the NLG door mechanism actuator shaft assemblies having certain part numbers, and corrective actions if necessary.

This AD would also provide an optional terminating action for the repetitive inspections for Model CN-235, CN-235-100, CN-235-200, and CN-235-300 airplanes.

DATES: This AD is effective October 18, 2018.

COST: The FAA estimates that this AD affects 14 airplanes of U.S. registry. The cost of compliance is estimated as follows:

  • Inspections - 21 work-hours × $85 per hour = $1,785 per inspection cycle. Parts - N/A. Total coat $1,785 per aircraft per inspection cycle.
  • Modification for Model CN-235 airplanes - 10 work-hours × $85 per hour = $850. Parts $33,626. Total cost per aircraft - $34,476.
  • Replacement - 14 work-hours × $85 per hour = $1,190. Parts - $18,720. Total cost per aircraft - $19,910.
