Colorado Airport To Close For Taxiway Construction

Rifle Garfield County Airport To Be Closed To Fixed-Wing Traffic September 15-24

Rifle Garfield County Airport in Colorado will be closed for a few days later this month so that a construction project can be completed.

According to a notice posted on the airport website, the facility "will be closed on Monday – September 15th at 9 am through Wednesday, September 24th at 5 pm (local time), due to the construction of the A-3 taxiway.

"Under special conditions, pilots may request access to the runway after construction hours, by coordinating and receiving direct permission from Rifle Garfield County Airport Director Brian Condie, and being aware of the open pit on the side of the runway. For safety reasons, the airport director will conduct a runway FOD check prior to any arrival or departure."

The NBAA said in a notice posted on its website that the FAA is expected to issue a NOTAM about the closure by September 12.

The work is being done in advance of the Rocky Mountain Fall Fly-In scheduled at the airport September 26-28.
