Provides Engine Monitoring for Piston Single-Engine Aircraft

Aspen Avionics and Electronics International (EI) announced they formed a partnership to incorporate engine monitoring capabilites into Aspen’s Evolution MFD500 MAX and MFD1000 MAX Multi-function displays. The upgraded system will replace legacy instrument hardware with engine information comparable to modern installed EFIS systems. The features are in development and involve integrating EI’s sensors and engine data converter with the software to run the display functions while removing the installed/original RPM, oil temp/press, manifold temp, EGT/CHT, fuel level/press, volt/amp, and TIT gauges. The system will be on display at Aspen Avionics booth in Hangar B at EAA AirVenture 2024, and is expected to be available in 2025.

Airborne 07.17.24: Illegal Parts, Fantasy of Flight, Apollo 11's 55th

Also: Aerox, WI ANG, HI Helo Accident, Gulfstream Expansion

Another criminal case involving non-airworthy parts swappage has seen the sentencing of those involved, costing the perpetrators a year in prison and about $300,000 in restitution. Daniel Navarro, 50 years old, was the Vice President of Sofly Aviation Services, a parts distributor. Jorge Guerrero, 71, was the firm's Procurement & Asset Management Specialist. Their grift wasn't anything particularly complex or thought out: Sofly would buy cheap parts marked "as removed", and then fake the paperwork... Kermit Weeks has amassed more than 140 vintage military and civilian aircraft during his life. He also established the Fantasy of Flight Museum in Polk City, Florida, along Interstate I-4 which traverses Polk County. To advertise the museum and attract visitors, Weeks mounted a Douglas DC-3 at the I-4 exit near the museum. For readers of a certain age who were mesmerized by the idea

Massive Aviation News Event Started 2024 Off With a Plethora of Exciting Info

Last year, we introduced the SnF Innovation Preview in which 25 companies introduced over 30 new planes, products, engines, accessories, and more… in other words… a LOT of news. Rotax previewed the powerful 916iS, CubCrafters showcased the Carbon Cub UL, Bose introduced the A30, Aerox revealed the Boomula… and so much more. This year, we went beyond that... way beyond all that, with a larger selection of news announcements that covered ALL aspects of sport, general and commercial aviation... all at the start of the 50th Annual SUN n FUN Aerospace Expo... the undisputed start to the aviation year. This year was also a major news-breaker... especially with the announcement that the DeltaHawk Diesel engine folks were working with Piper Aircraft on an STC for the PA44 Seminole. UAS4STEM is an Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) sanctioned competition for students aged 11 through graduating high school seniors. Teams compete throughout the year to make it to the championship at AirVenture. NBAA returned to the grind of angling for fresh blood in the industry, urging congress to implement some of the high-minded plans enclosed in their recent FAA reauthorization legislation. Every so often the industry seems to remember the impending wave of retirements, which is followed by some anxious glances at the unimpressively slim pilot production pipeline. Breaking Down Barriers is a new aviation nonprofit set up by Doug and Gwen Parker and is based in Dallas, Texas. It is committed to eliminating obstacles that many young adults face and to serve as an inspiration and pathway for those who might otherwise have never thought of aviation as a career

A 28-year-old man residing in Concord, California, is out on bail after being arrested in connection with an attempted theft of multiple airplanes from the Buchanan Field Airport (KCCR). Police have charged the man with six felonies including attempted grand theft and attempted fraud. The story began when a local owner got wind of his aircraft being advertised for sale. Which took him by surprise since he knew nothing about it nor had he authorized it. NAA paid tribute to USAF Major General Joe Henry Engle, who passed away on July 10, 2024. Engle always had a passion to fly. But he got his start when he got to the University of Kansas where he spent summers sweeping hangars at Cessna. His boss recognized his passion and began teaching and mentoring him about airplanes. The Wings & Wheels event at Decatur Airport (KDEC) in Decatur, Illinois, was recently added to t
