Airborne 03.18.19: Chipper SS Unveiled, 777X Reveal, EAA Spirit Of Aviation

No one has to tell you that the cost of ‘just plane flying’ keeps getting greater... and greater. And the cost of airplane ownership has done likewise. However; a new offering from James Wiebe of Belite fame may be just the thing that allows flyers to find an affordable way back into the aviation game. The Chipper SS is a Single Seat Aircraft that can be operated as a Part 103 Ultralight or as an Experimental  airplane. Wiebe reports that it will be easy to build, and economically priced. Flameout Pattern An approach normally conducted by a single-engine military aircraft experiencing loss or anticipating loss of engine power or control. The standard overhead approach starts at a relatively high altitude over a runway (“high key”) followed by a continuous 180 degree turn to a high, wide position (“low key”) followed by a continuous 180 degree turn final. The standard straight-in pattern starts at a point that results in a straight-in approach with a high rate of descent to the runway. Flameout approaches terminate in the type approach requested by the pilot (normally fullstop).
