Traveling On US Airways? Pack Light

Overweight Luggage On The Carrier Costs More

US Airways has bumped up its fees for heavy luggage by $40.  Passengers with bags that weigh between 51 and 70 pounds will now be slapped with an additional $90 fee over the normal $25 first-checked-bag fee. Go over 70 pounds, and the fee is $175.

The Associated Press reports that the fees for checking a first or second bag  on US Airways ... $25 and $35 repectively will not be changing.

The practice of  charging to put luggage in the hold of an airplane has become common, with most airlines now collecting an extra fee for a the first checked bag. It  is also common for passengers with bags above 50 pounds to be charged more.
