Rep. Hayes Sponsors Bill Requiring FAA to Justify DC ADIZ

HAI tells us that US Rep. Robin Hayes (R-NC) has sponsored an amendment to the FAA Reauthorization Bill that would require the FAA to justify the Washington, D.C. Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) within 30 days, and then every 60 days thereon that it is in existence, directly to Congress. Hayes' measure also requires the FAA to implement changes that would improve the efficiency and minimize the operational impact of the ADIZ, if it is to remain in effect.

The measure was introduced into the House FAA Reauthorization Bill (H.R. 2115), which was approved by the full House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on May 21. The Committee also included in the bill a "Sense of the Congress" that Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport be reopened to general aviation.
