American Legend Aircraft Announces Successful First Flight Of
FloatCub
American Legend Aircraft Company has
announced the successful first flight of its all-new FloatCub
airplane on May 1, 2005. The FloatCub is a float-equipped version
of the Legend Cub announced earlier this year. The Legend Cub first
flew on March 11th. The Legend FloatCub will appeal to recreational
flyers and water flying enthusiasts of all ages in all areas of the
world.
At the controls for the first flight of the FloatCub was company
president Tim Elliott. In the rear seat was company test pilot
Danny Goggins. In preparation for the first flight, Elliott and
Goggins performed several minutes of step taxiing and plow taxiing
in the FloatCub. The airplane’s first water takeoff and
landing took place on Lake Sulphur Springs adjacent to the
company’s facilities on Sulphur Springs Municipal Airport at
the end of runway 18.

Similar in appearance to the Piper J-3 Cub, the Legend Cub and
Legend FloatCub represent an evolution in design and fabrication.
Numerous enhancements make Legend Cub a thoroughly modern aircraft.
These include a 100-horsepower Teledyne-Continental piston engine,
an electric starter, and modern instrumentation. The FloatCub is
equipped with Baumann BF-1500 floats. The Legend Cub will be built
using standardized and certified assembly processes, and will be
sold to customers ready-to-fly.

Elliott commented, “The airplane performed as expected and it
felt just like the wheel-equipped Legend Cub in flight.” A
celebratory crowd of Legend employees was on-hand to witness the
first flight. Elliott added, “These talented individuals have
worked extremely hard to literally get this company off the ground.
I am grateful for their efforts and support as we celebrated the
first flight of our second airplane.”

American Legend Aircraft Company is a manufacturer of general
aviation aircraft with more than 34 years of industry experience.
The company is committed to building the finest aircraft from the
highest quality materials and best available craftsmanship. Legend
is a privately funded company.

The Legend Cub is a two-place, single piston-engine
powered aircraft designed to meet Light-Sport Aircraft category
certification requirements. It will have a maximum gross weight of
under 1,320 lbs. With the optional floats, the aircraft will be
capable of water takeoffs and landings.

Light-Sport Aircraft certification of the Legend Cub and Legend
FloatCub is expected in July 2005. First deliveries will take place
immediately following certification.
