Don't Call Us... We'll Call You

With Don Carty Out at AA, Phone Number Change Doesn't Follow Pattern

It was just last Thursday that American Airlines ousted former CEO Don Carty, and some expected changes simply haven't taken place.

One of them hasn't, anyway...

The old phone number where employees could hear a recorded update of management goings-on was 1-800-AA-CARTY. It doesn't sound the same, since ol' Don is gone. The current message says only, "American Airlines has no comments at this time."

OK -- so the new CEO, Gerard Arpey, should carry on the same tradition, right? Well, no. 1-800-AA-ARPEY isn't family fare. It's a sex line. ANN tried numerous times, solely in the interest of journalism, to find out just what the exact message would be at the "Arpey" number; but all we got was a busy signal, or the old, "We're sorry; all circuits are busy now."

Hours later, when we finally got through, we were directed to a new phone number, "for exciting talk..."

Perhaps now you know why the "Carty" line has no comment.
